More than 10 years ago, Jim Carrey, who is perhaps best known for his movies and comedy, transitioned from being a full-time actor to exploring his authentic self and his place in the quantum universe.

Early in his life Jim wanted to help his mom, who suffered from severe arthritis and depression. He made her laugh so she would feel better. He wanted to use his comedy to free others from concern as well.

Even when Jim was at the top of his career, he was deeply unhappy, depressed, and on Prozac. He started to ask himself, what would happen if he didn’t have fame? What would happen if he said things that people did not want to hear?

This led him to meet and become friends with worldwide spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle. When Jim read Eckhart’s books, he realized his avatar, or physical body, and the thoughts in his head, were not his real self. His true self is the shining light, the energy that can never die.

Jim realized that the real reason he was depressed was that he believed his avatar had to look and act a certain way. He thought his avatar had to please others.

Jim realized he was the observer of his thoughts, and that he did not have to let them control his life.  He could be free of his ego, or unexamined mind, as Eckhart calls it.

Once Jim let go of all that conditioning, he became happier and was able to get off the Prozac. This changed how he saw his entire life — his mission, his fame, and himself. He embarked on sharing his spiritual experience and discoveries with others.

Jim stepped away from acting and would only accept roles if they called to him. No longer needing the attention from acting, he now had a more important job to do.

Jim now urges those who are struggling with depression to let go of the armor. Noticing that other people were hungry for freedom from the ego as well, he told them that letting go of their identification with their avatar is the first step to awakening.

Jim realized that sharing his spiritual insights was more important than his acting career. He feels that he was meant to become famous so he could walk away from it, unattached. His fame also allows him to have a platform to be heard.

In addition to being an accomplished painter, in 2020, Jim published his memoire, Memoires and Misinformation, which includes his spiritual insights. A few years earlier, he established a production company called Some Kind of Garden (SKOG) with the plan to release movies for theatres and TV. One of SKOG’s first works was a children’s book, How Roland Rolls which shows how we are all connected through the metaphor of a wave in the ocean.

Jim and Eckhart Tolle are honorary co-founding members of the LA-based GATE (Global Alliance for Transformational Entertainment), a nonprofit membership trade association open to entertainment, media, and arts professionals seeking to share their personal transformation through their work.

In 2017 Jim received a lot of YouTube hits speaking at Homeboys Industries which is run by his good friend Father Greg. It a residential program in downtown Los Angeles for former gang members and previously incarcerated men and women. Homeboys Industries not only gives its residents a place to live but teaches them employment skills. It is one of the most successful reentry programs in the country.

Jim, in this YouTube clip, tells the men and women at Homeboys Industries how suffering can lead to awakening. He talks about taking the courageous path of forgiveness and compassion and turning away from darkness. When we choose the path of forgiveness, it opens the pathway to heaven and frees up the flow of divine energy.

Jim serves as a gateway for people who would not normally be attracted to spirituality. For people who only know Jim’s comedy, they can be introduced to new ideas.

Jim’s spiritual insights and life experiences help people from all backgrounds. They receive the messages of love and compassion which can make permanent, positive life changes.
